Cultivating the Peacebuilding Potential
of Palliative Care Practice in Rwanda
Hospice without Borders works in Rwanda with the Ministry of Health and local partners to improve access to culturally appropriate palliative care.
Its headquarters is located at the 'Olympia Fig' on State Avenue NE, in Olympia.
In this event, Founder, Dr. David Slack, MD, will give a presentation about his hospice work in Rwanda, and talk about the Present to Dying course in Olympia, that he hosts annually for local residents.
THIS EVENT IS FREE. JUST TURN UP OR RSVP ABOVE IF YOU CAN.
Dr. David Slack, MD.
David Slack MD is a Palliative Medicine Physician who founded Hospice Without Borders (HWB) in 2010 after experiencing a ‘palliative care and morphine miracle’ on a house call with Grace, the first nurse trained in palliative care in Rwanda. Since that auspicious encounter, David has come to appreciate the structural peacebuilding potential of the practice, in particular amongst traumatized and impoverished communities. Besides his work at HWB, David is a full-time palliative medicine physician with Kaiser Permanente.
He is married to Natasha and resides in Olympia, Washington.
The venue at the Old Olympia Glass Building is accessible from the street on the ground floor with no stairs. There are no accessible toilets on-site, so we do suggest you use other local locations and facilities where possible.
