We are surrounded by death all around us all the time. Nature shows us how to die. Whether we live in town or country animals are dying out there constantly. Sometimes we don't see their dead bodies if they died a natural death, just like we don't see their dens or where they lay their head at night … but we do often encounter accidental animal deaths.
When we see a dead animal in the road, some of us may develop compassion. Some may develop indifference. Do we honor them like we would a human? Do we think we are staring at a body only and that its soul has moved on to elsewhere? Does that create our indifference of the remains before us? Do we believe these wild animals have gone over the rainbow bridge to join the dogs and cats?
Do we relate to all deaths the same or differently? Do we relate to all living things the same or differently? Should we honor the animals who left this earth as much as we honor the humans? Don’t they deserve our flowers and reverence? Wasn’t their life meaningful to their kin? Are some deaths more important than others?
